Meet the Starting Nine:

“Hi everyone! My name is Alys (pronounced uh-lease) and I’m honored to be representing the Giant Race in 2018 to share with everyone how much I adore this series. I’ve been a Giants fan since my first game with my dad at age 4, and a runner since age 10. Fitness and baseball both played a huge role in getting me through some hard times when I had serious struggles with mental health from 2012-2015, so when I began my journey toward a new way of life it seemed like a natural fit to make the San Francisco Giant Race my first comeback event. Since then I’ve done 7 Giant Races in all 4 locations, along with 11 half marathons and 3 marathons! When I’m not racing I also love to run as a pacer and as a running coach to help inspire others to reach their goals. When I’m not running or working, I’m usually studying Chemistry in pursuit of a career in medicine. You can find me racing the 10k and going for this year’s Series Sweep!”

“Hi! I’m Briana, a Giants fan, runner, triathlete, personal trainer and foodie. I started running consistently in 2011 and have been running the Giant Race ever since. I love the Giant Race so much, that last year I did a triathlon in Oakland first thing in the morning then booked it across the bridge to run the 5k that same day. I’ve completed an Ironman, 3 Ironman 70.3’s, 1 full marathon, 8 half marathons, and countless 5ks & 10ks. I’m currently training for my 3rd attempt at the Ironman distance and committed to run at least a mile every single day of 2018. If I’m not swimming, biking, and running, I also love yoga, traveling, camping and developing content for my health and wellness website My passion is to inspire people to get active, fuel their bodies with real food, and live their best life.”

“Hello fellow Giants fans!! I’m Elyse aka @milestomedals & I am so extremely honored and excited to be able to be apart of the 2018 Starting Nine team!!
I am currently living in Sacramento and am a diehard born and raised @SFGiants fan out of the Central Valley!I’ve ran my share of races since I started running 4 years ago, including the #GiantRace 10K & Half Marathon, and am excited to add both of those to my calendar once again. I also most recently ran my first full marathon at #CIM35 and am happy to say I Boston Qualified! It took months of training and hundreds of miles ran, but I did it and could not be any more proud. When I’m not logging miles on the ground, I’m adding air miles to my life as a flight attendant; while traveling and training for races can be difficult at times, it is the most rewarding feeling to cross that finish line knowing all of the hard work, discipline, and sacrifices paid off!⠀
I can’t wait to see and meet you all, and even more so, I can’t wait to cheer on our boys this coming season. LET’S GO GIANTS!!”

“I bleed Black and Orange! Running is my therapy. Chasing my first full marathon in 2018. I fill my days with running, craft beer, and coffee. Always seeking the next adventure.”

“My name is Marsha Moore! I am originally from the Seattle area and relocated to the Bay area in April 2014. I live in the East Bay and love exploring this area with my 12-year-old daughter and husband. After moving to the Bay area, I decided to start running again. My first race was the Giant Race 5K in 2014! Then, I decided to go further! In February 2016, I started with Team in Training, running in honor of my dad, a retired firefighter, who was battling his second go around of a work-related blood cancer. In 2016 I ran the San Francisco Hot Chocolate 15K, Tinkerbell Half Marathon, the Second Half of the San Francisco Marathon, and ended the year with the San Jose Rock N Roll Marathon. I felt I had found my niche! I loved to run and running with Team in Training made me feel so fulfilled! In 2017 I started volunteering with Team in Training as a captain and ran the Nashville Rock N Roll Full Marathon, Armed Forces Half Marathon in Concord and the 2017 Giant Race Half Marathon! In addition to running, I workout and recently started a hobby of making wine charms!! I have the most fun on runs with my daughter, it is always when I can get her to talk nonstop!! She is full of spunk and keeps me busy! I will be running the 2018 Giant Race Half Marathon with Team in Training again! I run for my dad, and all the other firefighters that are impacted by blood cancers! AND, I did become a Giants fan after moving here!!”.

“Ron Poggi, aka, UncorkedRunner

2x Boston Marathon finisher and plan on running in Boston again this year. This year’s Giant Race half marathon will be my 100th lifetime half marathon.

I currently help with the Run365 training program which trains runners to complete races in SF and Berkeley. I enjoy running ANY race held in San Francisco, especially the Giant Race, San Francisco Marathon, and the Bay to Breakers.”

“Hi! My name is Royce, a fellow athlete and photographer. I was born and raised in California, currently residing near Sacramento. I participate in Spartan races, duathlons, running races, cycling and new in 2018 – a marathon and a few triathlons!! I am a big Giants fan and absolutely love the Giant Race series. Their passion for supporting fitness and helping local charities is amazing. When I’m not racing you’ll find me traveling with my family to National Parks and unique places doing lifestyle and outdoor photography for the outdoor industry. I love nature and encouraging others to get outside and enjoy life. I’m very excited and honored to be part of the 2018 Giant Race Ambassador Team and look forward to seeing you out there!!”

“I am originally from Hawaii, but now live in Tempe, Arizona. I attend ASU where I am studying business entrepreneurship and political science. My favorite race distance is half-marathon and I have completed 8 in 3 states (and counting)! My greatest achievements are joining the San Francisco Marathon 52 Club in 2016 and representing the Giant Race series as an ambassador for two consecutive years! When I am not running, you can find me working on my small business or at a yoga sculpt class!”

“My name is Stephanie Harlow and I’m from Fresno Ca! I am a crazy runner about to hit Half Marathon #50…And This will take place in September at AT&T Park! WooHoo! My craziest race experience was the Tahoe trifecta in 2017! I completed 3 half marathons in 3 days! Whew…. That was a tough one! Looking forward to an amazing 2018 with the Starting Nine!”.
